The Company

The Company began in the early 1980s as a group of friends, passionate about theatre and performing arts, eager to add a new amateur dramatics group to Sheffield’s already lively am-dram scene. In the beginning, it was run in a similar way to professional theatre companies, where the same group of actors, stage crew and technicians put on each show. This model is where our name comes from. In the mid 90s, we opened auditions to anyone who wanted to participate. ​​ Since our inception, we have performed at the University of Sheffield’s Drama Studio. This historic building was formerly Glossop Road Baptist Church, the foundation stone being laid in 1869. The University opened it as a theatre in 1970.
